I love hummus simply because it is so darn yummy. I eat it almost daily in one way or an other. Today I want to share with you my best hummus recipes! These recipes are all delicious, easy to make and extremely healthy.
It turns out that hummus is much more than a tasty snack. Hummus has been a long time favorite for health enthusiasts and here is why:
Health Benefits of Hummus
- Hummus is high in fiber that slows digestion and keeps blood sugar levels from rising too quickly.
- Chickpeas contain iron and manganese that keep our energy levels up and our blood healthy. Chickpeas are also a wonderful source of protein and a healthy source of carbohydrates.
- Olive oil is a wonderful source of healthy fats. Healthy fats are extremely important because they help us keep our hair, skin, and nails healthy. They are also great for weight loss.
- Tahini is also high in protein and is a great source of calcium.
- Garlic – studies have shown that garlic is extremely important for warding off colds, cancer prevention, heart disease prevention, and fighting infection.
Hummus is great as a dip. You can bring it to work, have it as a snack for the kids or bring it to a party and it always fits. It is one of those things everyone loves! Here are some places I use hummus that goes beyond just dip:
Where to Use Hummus:
- In place of mayo – I use hummus to “butter” my bread, as the mayo in my sandwich and on my wraps. You can use hummus anywhere you need a good spread (see below my awesome pin wheel wraps using hummus).
- Dip for chopped fresh veggies – yes, I know that you know this one, but shake it up and try one of my new best hummus recipes I have listed below.
- Chips and dip – oh man! This is the best. No guilt, all good. See the recipe below.
- As a salad dressing – I use my garlic hummus recipe as a creamy creaser salad dressing. Just add a couple tbsp to your next chicken salad and bam you have a chicken ceasar salad you can feel great about eating.
- Sliced chicken breasts or healthy chicken nuggets – use hummus as a dip for your sliced baked chicken breast or healthy chicken nuggets (yes, they are possible, I will blog about them later). You could even make stuffed chicken breasts with spinach and hummus.
Chickpeas or Garbonzo Beans are so versatile. They can be used for savory or sweet recipes. Check out below for a list of savoury, unique ways to use chickpeas and some surprising sweet ways to use chickpeas:

Pin Wheel Veggie Wraps (or Sushi Wraps)
These are perfect for a quick meal, lunch on the go, healthy snack for the little ones in your family and are amazing to do up a large platter and bring to your next party or event. Everyone will love this guilt-free, healthy appetizer. I could hardly get a picture of these little bad boys… My hubby and I were ready to eat them as soon as they were cut. These are so easy… you have to make them this week.
Ingredients:
- Cucumber
- Red pepper
- Avocado
- Homemade Hummus
- Ezekiel Wraps
- On Ezekiel wrap (or 100% Whole Grain wrap), spread hummus (over half the wrap).
- Cut red and orange peppers into long thin slices, place the peppers on the wrap (on the hummus side) in a single layer laying them length-wise in the same direction.
- Thinly slice cucumbers and add them length-wise the peppers and hummus. Then roll the wraps length-wise. Add some small pieces of chopped avocado if you choose.
- Cut off the ends (your snack while cooking) and then cut the rest of the wrap into 1-inch rounds. Place rounds flat on a serving tray. Make sure if you are bringing them to a party you make lots, they are a hit!
Home made Ezekiel chips (or brown rice wraps – to make these gluten free) are quick to make and are the best chips I have ever eaten. This is an original recipe that I came up with by accident and I am so happy that I did. They are crunchy, spicy and delicious.
Ingredients:
- 2 Ezekiel wraps (or brown rice wraps – to make these gluten free)
- Franks hot sauce with a lime flavor
- Extra virgin olive oil
Directions:
- Pre-heat oven to 450 F.
- Take one of your wraps and place it on a baking sheet or stone. Drizzle with olive oil, then with hot sauce.
- Take the second wrap and place on top of the oiled/hot sauced wrap. (like a sandwich)
- Smooth them around spreading the oil and hot sauce evenly to both wraps.
- Cut the sandwiched wraps into chip sized slices.
- Peel chip slices apart and place sauce side up on your baking sheet.
- Bake for 8 minutes (*be sure to set a timer and keep an eye on these chips. I can not tell you how many times I have burned mine and they are so darn good you will be mad at yourself).
- Remove from the oven, place on a plate along with your hummus and enjoy your dipping!
- Share with a friend and experience true, guilt-free chips.

Thanks Kristy!
I loved visiting! Hope you had a great day! Come back often!
I had brown rice yesterday and was looking for something to ‘flavor’ it instead of soya sauce… I put a little bit of hummus in it and it tasted great! 🙂
Such a great idea!!! I am going to try that!
I love taking some onion, red peppers, frying them up in some olive oil and adding them to my rice. I also love hot sauce and mrs. dash…lol
This is perfect timing! I was planning on making some hummus this weekend!
This is perfect timing! I was planning on making some hummus this weekend!
That is wonderful! let me know how it all turns out!
I made the hummus, the wraps and the baked chips. My whole family loves all of it, as do I – thanks so much.
Oh that makes me so happy!! I love to hear that!! I love these recipe so much! I love being able to share them all with you guys! Thank you for sharing!! Let me know if you try anything else and what the family thinks! Have a great day!
Can’t wait to try these chips! and hummus to go with! The candied roasted chickpeas were delightful! I’m trying the spicy ones tomorrow!
Chickpeas on their own are not a complete protein. Chickpeas + the sesame seeds in tahini are a complete protein, but not chickpeas on their own. Go hummus.
Tried the chips tonight. They are WONDERFUL! My whole family liked them, picky kids and all. I ended up using the entire bag of wraps. I was worried about the hot sauce since I don’t like the taste of it, but it blends so well that had I not made them I wouldn’t have known it was there. Thanks for the great recipes!
SO great to hear Amy! Thank you so much for sharing and trying the recipe!! Have a great weekend!
my first time making hummus and even though i didnt follow the recipe exactly (i couldnt find tahini in my local market), it came out sooo tasty. healthier and cheaper than purchasing it already made at the store (im vegan so i go through ALOT of hummus). my second time making homemade baked chips and i have to say these turned out amazing, ive never though of putting hot sauce on them! Thank you so much for posting!!
*a lot
Aren’t they great!? So happy you loved them and thank you for the comment love!

You are so welcome!! Thank you for the comment love!!!
The Greek yogurt hummus turned out delicious, creamy just like I wanted!
Wonderful! Thank you for sharing!!!
I had some left over pesto and added it to my hummus, yummmmmmy!
Great idea!! I love that! Hope you have a great weekend!!!
I do the same thing with Ezekiel pita (prophet bread) and garlic powder. Makes GREAT pita chips!
Why oh why call them chick peas when we have a perfectly good name like garbonzos.
Awesome. Posted to my F/B with good PR! Thank you.
Thank so much 🙂
if you want hummus soup try the first recipe…..
Just made the Greek Yogurt Hummus (with slight variations – I used tahini because I had no sesame oil, and a full teaspoon of cayenne, because I like spicy) and it was wonderful. Can’t wait to try the rest!
Where do you find Tahini in the grocery store?
I found Tahini at Winn Dixie by the sauces.
Thank you! making the chips tonight to accompany tabouli and roasted red pepper hummus. Great idea
Thank you!! I hope you are having a great day!
Hello,
The Pin Wheel Veggie Wraps recipe says on step 4 “(while cooking)”, but there are no direction for the cooking part.
Thanks
The Ezekiel wraps are AMAZING! So easy, fast and delicious. Thanx for sharing..
Thank you!! Hope you are having a great day!
I agree! Amazing! I used Tobasco sauce because that’s what I have and they were perfect. Baked @ 450 for 8 mins.
Awesome!
I love to hear that!
Recipie worked out awesome, didn’t have any red peppers on hand but a medium spicy salsa mixed in really well with the hummus to give it some kick
SO great to hear!!! Hope you are having a great day!
we have a sesame allergy at our school – if I leave out the tahini to make this safe for school what should I put in there instead?
Yes! I often make hummus with just olive oil! It works out great! You will love it!
Could you use something other than hot sauce?? Not a big fan of spice. Thanks!!
Hey Nicole! You can just skip the hot sauce and your sea salt or spice! They will turn out great 🙂
Amazing, I always buy store bought hummus but these recipes look delish. Now I need to invest in a food processor then I’m set. Thanks so much 🙂
love the ideas, can’t wait to try the ezekiel chips!
They are so yummy! You will love them 🙂 Enjoy
My favorite is a jalapeño and celantro hummus. Oh so good with just a little kick.
What size can of chick peas do you use?

What if you don’t have a food processor, can you use a blender?
Can you store the chips?

I love Hummus, I use it as a spread in place of butter and as a dipping sauce. I never used to like Hummus but after a friend made me a pita sandwich and used hummus as the spread, I’ve never looked back. It was the best Steak pita I have ever had.
I made the Tamari hummus with 2 tbls of Tamari it’s a but strong…and I love Tamari other than that it’s quite tasty the tortilla chips are uh mazing!!!
How can anyone stand Franks hotsauce. Not this Texan; Chalula is the better, homemade is best!
Thanks for your opinion, Craig.
I can lovingly stand Frank’s Craig. And we have cholula, sriracha, and a whole mess of others in our fridge.
May have missed it somewhere, but what is the portion size?
I would love to print these recipes. How so? Thanks

If you don’t want burnt chips, cook on 400 degrees for 6 minutes. And they are delicious with your hummus.
You’re right! I accidentally set my oven at 425° but set the timer on 7 minutes on purpose so I could check them. They burnt to a crisp!
wow. I’m a longtime vegan and now on a low salt/sugar/oil diet which has been very good for me and my family. I’ve been making no oil added hummus for awhile and haven’t been pleased with the results. I’ve just made the lime chipotle hummus (no oil added as the exception) and it turned out very good. And i’ve been looking for some time for a good recipe. nice job!!
So glad you loved them!
i have. and thanks. you rock. this change isn’t easy, but you have helped us out and i appreciate it!!
I once made a roasted red pepper and garlic hummus without oil or tahini and it turned out fantastic. It was an experiment so no recipe. I used 4 roasted red bells, 4 cloves roasted garlic, 1 raw garlic, a splash of lemon and vegetable juice (in place of oil). The juice from the beans works well too. I also seasoned it with black pepper and cheyenne. I used one of the bells for garnish on top. I cook my own chic peas in bulk so I don’t remember how much I used. Just add them slowly to tweek the right consistency.
Ruca, thanks for the head’s up. i shall give this recipe a whirl as well. perhaps you really do Rox…lol
What meal option do these spicy nacho chips count for? (plain…without any dip)
Hey Melissa! You can have one wrap worth at lunch for your healthy carb option OR you can have 1/2 wrap worth with 1/4 hummus and 1 cup veggies for meal 2 or 4. I hope you are having a great day!
A machine that wipes hummus!!!

Where do we find Ezekial Wraps? I’ve heard of Ezekial bread but not the wraps.
health food stores tend to stock em.
Hi Cindy! In BC we get them at Donald’s Market but they should be available at any Whole Foods.
I’m curious about the Ezekiel chips shown in your cheesy chive dip photo. they appear to also have dried seaweed and an herb sprinkled on top. what is that variation of the chips?
Hi! Thank you for these wonderful recipes! I can’t wait to try them But first, do you have the nutritional information and serving size? So when I complete the recipe, how much should I be eating in one sitting?
Just copy and paste these wonderful recipes into a recipe program like MasterCook and all of the nutritional information will be provided.
Do you really mean tamari in the garlic hummus, as in soy sauce?
I just wanted to point out the wrong information about chick peas, they are actually not a complete protein. As far as we know, only quinoa is complete protein in the plant world.
You are missing something in the ingredient list for Hot and Light Hummus
Your recipe reads
Ingredients:
3/4 cup fat-free plain greek yogurt
1 can drained and rinsed
I think you meant to say “1 can (15 oz) Garbanzo beans; drained and rinsed.”
This is my recipe, I notice it’s quite different
1– 15 oz can chickpeas/garbanzo, drained
1/4 — cup tahini
1/4 — cup extra virgin olive oil
juice of 1 lemon (4 tbsp)
1/2 — tsp cumin (fresh ground is important)
1/2 — tsp salt
1 — garlic clove
1 to 2 — tbsp juice from chickpea can as needed for texture
1 — crushed small clove
Splash of rice vinegar
Blend
Garnish if olive oil and paprika
I add spice with an asian oil based pepper sauce containing bits of red pepper for texture and appearance. You’ll need to add a lot of sriracha to heat it up. Hot spice can be added after blending.
YUMMY!!
Why in the world would you promote canned chick peas on a health blog? Canned are loaded with salt and preservatives and soaking dried chick peas overnight and cooking them is so easy and much cheaper… Disappointed to see that. I came looking for some creative options to the regular hummus recipes.
Great ideas but you need to invest in a good camera 😉
