In today’s episode we discus the emerging research that shows a diverse microbiome (probiotics) is associated with being lean (or avoiding weight gain). The most recent study analyzed the gut bacteria of over 4000 people.
What they found was simple – those who had the most diverse microbime had the lowest Body Mass Index.
This idea that those who have more diverse microbiomes are healthier still requires further study but the current data looks promising.
The great news is achieving a well rounded team of gut bacteria can be done by eating more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Some of David’s favorite treats are also associated with a diverse microbiome – we are talking about red wine, dark chocolate and coffee.
