Once in a while I get a real craving for something warm and baked. This is my solution.
These brownies are delicious, chewy, unbelievably satisfying and eliminate cravings! These are my go-to when I’m craving something that feels “bad.” To me these are the ultimate treat!
I absolutely love the flavor and the texture. I highly suggest making these brownies for you and/or your family. Your children will never know that these are made with chickpeas.

Prep time: 3 Minutes – Cook time: 30 Minutes – Total time: 33 Minutes
Yield: Makes 12-16 Brownies
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Natural Smooth Peanut Butter (if you have a nut allergy you can always try to make these with a seed butter)
- 1/3 Cup Honey (Agave or Maple Syrup – to make these sugar free you can try Stevia)
- 1 Egg
- 1/4 Cup Egg Whites (2 Egg Whites)
- 1/4 Tsp Salt
- 1/2 Tsp Baking Soda
- 1 1/2 Cups Cooked Chickpeas
- 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 Cup Chocolate Chips (You can use 1/4 Cup Chocolate and 1/4 Cup White like I did)
Directions:
- Pre-heat oven to 350F.
- Spray your 8×8 glass baking dish with a healthy, non stick oil.
- Place all ingredients excluding the chocolate chips in your food processor and blend until smooth (stopping to scrape down the sides).
- Using a spatula hand mix-in your chocolate chips.
- Pour mixture evenly into your glass baking dish (use your spatula to smooth out the batter).
- Place in the oven and bake for 27 – 30 minutes (until your fork comes out clean).
- Remove from oven and let set for 10 minutes.
- Cut into squares, serve and enjoy!
- These are all-natural so I highly suggest storing them in a sealed tight container in your refrigerator.

Can I find out how many calories are in a brownie
Hi Ginette,
Here is our calorie counting info:ย http://www.damyhealth.com/faq/#countcalories
How much stevia would you use in place of the honey or agave?
Most likely 6 packets but every brand of stevia differs depending on it’s purity or if you are using liquid. It is difficult to account for. It really is a “to-taste” thing. Give it a try, test your batter for sweetness and I’m sure they will turn out great!ย
Amy Layne
Hi, I would like to give this recipe a try, but I am not familiar with all the terms. Could you, please, tell me if by “baked” chickpeas you mean boiled or roasted chickpeas? Thanks!
By “cooked” we mean either canned or boiled. Enjoy!
I am pre diabetic, so I’m trying to eat gluten free as well as eliminating sugar. I used pure maple syrup and 72% dark chocolate chopped. ย I baked them as mini cupcakes, never knew chickpeas could make something so delicious. ย Thanks, Amy
Glad you loved them!
Forgot to mention cut baking time to 15 minutes.
I used half cup of PB2 and half cup of Almond Butter.ย Also used half almond extract and half vanilla extracts. Turned out more cake like, but still moist and sooo delish!!ย Thanks for the yummy, healthy treat!!!ย My boys devoured these!
These are amazing! I made them for myself because I was craving a ‘treat’ and my kids devoured them. They’re already asking me to make them again!
I made these tonight.. just waiting for them to cool down.. they smell soooo GOOD!!:)ย
I love these too ๐
oh my goodness…these are AMAZINGGGGG!!!
My kids have been devouring these all summer! I love it when I find a healthy treat they enjoy, and these are super easy to make too. I’ve been making them every week and they always go fast.
So great to hear!!!
These are amazing!!! You are a genius ๐
Well thank you so much ๐
Can you use raw sugar in place of the honey?
Or does it have to be a liquid, does anyone know?
What if you don’t eat chickpeas? Can I sub cashews? What would you recommend?
No, that will not work for this recipe. This recipe will not work for you. Try some of the raw treats
I used dark red kidney beans and they still turned out great!
I just used a normal 15 oz can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed. Also, I let the ingredients sit in the bowl of my food processor for 20 minutes or so to bring the ingredients up to room temperature (my peanut butter had been in the fridge). It’s shocking how mainstream these taste.
Aren’t these delish!!! So happy you tried them and loved them ๐ I hope you are having a great day!
How did you get yours to be so thick? mine turned out more cake-like (still delicious though)
I must have used a smaller pan for these! I am not sure.
This was so delicious!!! I pureed all of the ingredients together and then topped the whole brownie with a few more chocolate chips. I also added ground flax seed. To die for!
So wonderful to hear ๐ Thank you for stopping by and sharing!!! I hope you are having a nice day!
Have just made these they are to die for….
So happy you loved them ๐ Thank you for sharing!
This did not turn out as pictured. Mine was cake like and overcooked at 27 minutes.
I just made these and they are super yummy! Kids licked them up and didn’t even have a clue they were healthy, thank you for such a great recipe!
You are welcome Brenda!
Hi! These sound great and I would love to make them for my family. However, my father is diabetic. Do you know roughly how many carbs are in each brownie? Thanks!
Tried these yesterday, my boyfriend don’t even know that they are made of chickpeas!!! And he really loves them! Great Recipe! I putted 6 packets of Stevia but it wasn’t enough! I will try them with maple syrup next time! Thank you!!!
So glad he loved them Alexandra!!!
these are amazingggggggggggggg. ๐
We love these but just curious how many calories are in the entire pan? Using honey
I’ve been a fan of your site since 2013 ๐ Love all the recipes you use whole food ingredients in! Today I *finally* got around to making these blondies. Since we know about ‘aquafaba’ and its benefits in vegan cooking, instead of draining the chickpeas of their liquid, I kept it and added extra vanilla and maple extracts. It made the batter very smooth and fluffy! I have it in the oven right now and it’s looking pretty tasty! I’ll update on how it really tastes in a bit! Thank you for this wonderful website! ๐
