So you’ve heard about this Zumba thingy and you don’t know if it’s a workout, religion or an all-inclusive vacation.  Don’t sweat it. I have dove into the Zumba world to give you all the information.

Zumba is fun dance fitness program created in the 1990s. It originates from Columbia and uses and infusion of Latin and international music. Zumba classes are offered through licensed instructors in more than 90,000 fitness center locations in 110 countries with ten million participating each year. The idea of Zumba is to move from one toning, strengthening, or cardio move to another through musical beat and tempo changes. It targets every major muscle group in the body. There are also many different types of Zumba for different age brackets and different fitness levels including: Zumba, Zumba Gold, Zumba Toning, Zumba Toning Sticks, Aqua Zumba and Zumbatomic.

I am lucky enough to work with a network of personal trainers from all over the world that teach all different styles of classes. For an instructors take I enlisted my girlfriend that currently lives in Hawaii and has taught Zumba for the last few years (among other classes) to find out her thoughts on this workout. Here is what she said, “Zumba is fun and can be a wonderful workout. It is a break from the everyday weights and cardio. When taught by a certified personal trainer with a Zumba certification, you will be working your body and not even notice because you are busy having fun!”

Zumba is a great addition to your fitness regimen. Though it will not replace the benefits of regular cardio or weight lifting enjoying Zumba a couple of times a week is a great way to get active while being social. This workout is perfect for someone just introducing fitness into their life or for anyone that is looking for active fun with the girls a couple of nights a week.

So now you want to try one of these classes and want some info on where to go? Well lucky you Amherstonians ‘The Amherst Fitness Queen’ herself has now added Zumba Instructor to her amazing resume. I, of course, am speaking of Beth Nuttall. Beth is the owner and operator of Your Place Fitness in downtown Amherst. She has led the fitness industry for many years and has continually brought new and exciting fitness programs to Amherst. Beth is committed to the health and wellness of her clients and members. When working out with Beth her focus is always safety first, taking the time to ensure her clients have perfect form, and killer workout second. Beth has an impressive resume that I cannot fully write here because it would be my entire article, but here is taste. Beth is certified thru CanFitpro, the most respected personal training governing body in Canada, as a certified Group Fitness Instructor since 1995, a certified personal Trainer, and certified in Program Development.  Beth also has some other fun and challenging classes for this winter season. Check out the times and dates at www.yourplace.ns.ca or give them a call. With the winter biting at our ankles everyone knows it is time to get their gym membership to head inside to get their sweat on. What also is so great about Beth and her gym, you can Zumba your heart out for free with your monthly Your Place membership. Any of the classes offered at Your Place are included in your membership. How great is that? Grab your girl friend, get the schedule and make Your Place your hang out this winter. Get trained by the best and enjoy the hottest new classes. You may even see me there; it is my favorite hang out in Amherst. Just no making fun of my Zumba moves.

As always I love hearing from you. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.
